The Best VRBO Wedding Venues in Virginia

If you’re looking for the best VRBO or Airbnb wedding venue for your micro wedding then you are in the right spot! Of the two, VRBO is my go-to place to find epic vacation rentals for hosting a wedding. (Airbnb banned events at their properties as of 2020.) Luckily, a LOT of properties are cross-listed between the two platforms. 

A quick note: if you are feeling overwhelmed I totally get it. Planning a wedding, ESPECIALLY an intimate wedding that’s a little different from the “norm” can feel completely overwhelming. How to Choose the Best VRBO as Your Wedding Venue

When you’re planning a VRBO wedding, here’s what to look for in a property. 

1. Is there a pretty, flat, outdoor space to host the ceremony?
2. Is there space indoors to hold the reception and ceremony, if needed? (for example if it rains.)
3. What is the aesthetic of the space inside and out?
4. How close is the property to other properties?
5. Can all the guests stay on site? If not, are there places nearby for them to stay? 
6. Are their additional fees for hosting an event on site**

My search for the best properties to host your VRBO wedding in Virginia started with filtering this way: 

• Allowing up to 12 guests
• Checking “events allowed”
• Removing dates 

Some properties that do not explicitly say “events allowed” will allow you to hold small, family-only celebrations. If you find a place not on this list that you love, just reach out to the owners. Many will say “yes” to that type of wedding. 

**One thing to note, it’s becoming increasingly more common for vacation rentals to charge additional fees to host a ceremony or reception on site. These can range from nominal fees (like $250) to similar pricing to what you would expect from a venue.

How Much Will Your VRBO Venue Cost?

The cost of a VRBO wedding can vary widely depending on the property, location, and amenities, but you can typically expect to spend $400–$1,500 per night for the rental itself. Many properties also charge an event fee ranging from $500 to $2,500, which covers the additional wear and tear, use of the space for a gathering, and sometimes extra services like parking or coordination. Some luxury estates or larger properties may cost more, while smaller, more intimate venues may fall on the lower end. Be sure to check with the host for specific pricing and requirements, as some may have guest count limits or additional fees for things like catering, tent setups, or extended stays.

It basically would just be an incredibly fun place to hang out with your closest friends and family for a weekend.
